SIBS-Online
SIBS-ONLINE is an online version of the SIBS program, developed for siblings between 12 and 16 years of age.

The content, objectives, and structure of SIBS-Online are the same as the original version, but all sessions are conducted digitally. In addition, an extra joint session has been added near the end to wrap up the sessions in a meaningful way.
Group leaders who facilitate SIBS-ONLINE have received specialized training in running digital groups. The idea behind an online version of SIBS is to make it easier for families to participate by removing the need to spend time and resources on travel.
You can read more about the development of SIBS-ONLINE here.
In 2025/2026, SIBS-ONLINE is delivered by the organization Voksne for Barn, which has trained its own volunteer group leaders to run the groups.
SIBS-ONLINE groups have previously been run in the USA, with positive feedback from the families who participated. You can read more about the experiences from the USA here.
The Sibling Project is now evaluating SIBS-ONLINE in collaboration with Voksne for Barn, through a project funded by Stiftelsen Dam. We are examining both the benefits and challenges of having a voluntary organization carry out the program. We also want to find out whether the intervention produces the same positive effects on communication and mental health that we have seen with the original SIBS model.
From 2025, a research group at the University of New South Wales in Sydney will also offer and evaluate SIBS-ONLINE in Australia. You can read more about this here.
The Sibling Project gained extensive experience running children’s groups online during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020–2021, and this experience has informed the development of SIBS-ONLINE. We have also held a webinar sharing our experiences with digital children’s groups, with advice and tips for others who want to try it. A recording of this webinar can be found below.
